TODAY’S DIGITAL economy has expedited
the payment process for small businesses
with streamlined electronic payments, but
using the wrong service provider can jeopardize your bottom line if it doesn’t meet
your needs. Mia Huntington, senior
vice-president and general manager at
Elavon Canada, Costco’s payment proces-ing service provider, shares several key
questions to consider when deciding on a
payment processor.
What kind of small business are you?
Small stores may require only counter-
top payment terminals; restaurants may
need to add wireless terminals for payment
at the table; outdoor vendors should con-
sider a mobile payment solution. Adding
online sales to your in-store business could
also be key to revitalizing sales.
Do you want to be innovative?
Customers who want to pay and go
quickly will appreciate the latest payment
technology, such as mobile wallet.
Meanwhile, businesses will benefit from
the productivity boost gained from lead-ing-edge payment solutions such as talech,
a tablet-based, easy-to-use payment system.
Does security matter to you?
Customers expect their personal data
to be secure at your business.
You should seek a payment
processor that deploys state-
of-the-art encryption and con-
tinually updates your system
to the latest internet technol-
ogy standards.
How strong will your technical
support be?
When a payment system is down, it’s a
source of incredible frustration, and every
minute of downtime leads to lost sales and
generally reflects poorly on the business.
Look for a payment processor that offers
highly trained customer service agents ;;/;.
Can you rely on a transparent and fair
process?
Your payment processor should explain
when proceeds from daily sales will be
deposited into your bank and how you can
save money and minimize interchange costs
(the amount credit card companies charge
for each transaction). C
FOR MORE than a decade, Costco has partnered with Primus to provide residential
telecommunication services, including high-speed internet, digital and traditional home
phone, long-distance and exclusive calling
features to Costco members.
Primus expanded its Digital Home Phone
footprint bringing coverage to more than 90
per cent of Canadians, and better coverage
in small and mid-size communities in
Alberta, British Columbia, Ontario and
Quebec. Digital Home Phone uses your
high-speed internet to deliver an advanced
home phone service at exceptional value
compared to a traditional home phone service. It’s no surprise that the majority of
Costco members signing up with Primus
are selecting a Digital Home Phone service.
In addition to the new expanded cover-
Primus’ services deliver value
