NO. I think Canada should not abandon the
monarchy. It is part of our history, and with it
comes tradition. Both things are important to
me. God save the Queen!

YES. In my opinion, Canada should not be
a country that is content under the dictates
of a Queen with a throne in a foreign country.
I needed new glasses. The best price I
could get was just over $550. By travelling to
Victoria, a suggestion made by an employee at
the Nanaimo warehouse, I got my glasses for
$245. I would recommend that you push for
an optical department in Nanaimo. It would
attract a great deal of business.

NO. As a Canadian by choice, I prefer our constitutional monarchy system to any other. It
was one of the main reasons why I became a

YES. The concept of a monarchy is totally antiquated, anti-democratic and even irrelevant to
contemporary Canada. Our British monarch
and her royal family may be formal, dignified
and even “nice,” but they, as well as the entire
concept of a ruling monarch, no longer relate
in any way to 21st-century Canada.

enjoyed the photo contest and the story on

YES. Why should Canadian taxpayers pay
millions of dollars for a Governor General
who is just a symbolic head of state representing a Queen who is thousands of miles
away? Canada is a democracy, isn’t it?
I find it very disheartening that a writer based
out of Winnipeg would totally omit even
mentioning any of the incredible camping
areas of Manitoba and Saskatchewan (“On the
wild side,” March/April 2010). Places such as
West Hawk Lake, Lac du Bonnett, Whiteshell
Provincial Park and Porcupine Plain, just to
name a few. We have breathtaking beauty in
our provinces. We are not just one big waving
wheat field. Come visit us sometime and see
for yourself.

Have something to say?
Canada has more than its share of beautiful camping destinations. Unfortunately, we did
not have enough room to mention as many as
we would have liked to.—Ed.

Congratulations on producing a magazine that is very interesting. I expected it to be
completely product-driven, but have been
very pleasantly surprised by the variety and
quality of the articles. I look forward to reading it.
