for your health
By Joseph Hanna
CANADIANS HAVE UNIVERSAL coverage for hospital and physician services; however, the same can’t be said for drug coverage.
With the increasing costs of medications,
particularly in the realm of specialty medications, which often cost thousands of dollars
per year, many businesses have unfortunately
elected to cut employees’ health benefits to
rein in costs.
A prescription for businesses
Costco Pharmacy offers a way to help
business owners. Costco works to maintain
concrete, demonstrable value over other retail
competitors in order to provide viable, sustainable, long-term solutions to managing
drug plan costs while maximizing employee
health outcomes. For example, if your organization spends $1 million on employee
drugs, you could expect considerable savings,
assuming that most or all of your plan members fill their prescriptions at Costco. The
greater the plan incentive for shopping at
Costco, the more likely your business will
achieve significant savings. In fact, one
employer who worked with Costco
observed a decrease in prescription drug
plan spending despite an increased number of prescription claims. That is the

If you have a drug plan through your
employer, you may not be aware of the true
cost of your medicines, just the co-pay. By
filling your prescriptions at Costco Pharmacy,
you can expect significant savings on your
out-of-pocket costs for all of your prescriptions. For example, if your medication costs
$100 at your pharmacy, then your co-pay
might be $20, assuming that your plan covers 80 per cent of the prescription cost. At
Costco Pharmacy, you could expect the
same medication to be priced at $80 or less,
and your co-payment would be at least $4
less than at your usual pharmacy.
If you’re on multiple prescriptions that
need to be taken regularly, your savings in
co-payments could result in hundreds of dollars of savings over the course of
a year. If you don’t have a drug
plan, Costco Pharmacy can
provide you with significant
savings on your prescriptions
to help make your medicines much more affordable and accessible.
